“Goon,” the second single from the OSEES’ upcoming LP Intercepted Message, is synth-punk-meets-hair-metal greatness. Imagine an edgier, subtler, less-hairsprayed version of KISS, and you’ve got “Goon.” The band’s nouveau-80’s sound, frontman John Dwyer explains, “for fans of Teutonic synth pop,” is a celebration of the dingiest and danciest arrangements of the past 40ish years. It’s a tune that will transport you to the most rebellious years of your early tweens, the kind of tongue-in-cheek, “fuck you all” number that never fails to make you want to head-bang at your desk.
