The first Paste Studio was literally a closet. In 2006, during the Paste Rock ‘n Reel music and movies festival, we invited artists to come record a few acoustic songs in our office. I remember hearing Brandi Carlile’s voice making a mockery of what I thought was a fairly solid wood door and becoming a lifelong fan in that instant. There was no room for cameras, no room for a band, just a small window to an equally small control room for audio recordings.
We eventually converted one of our offices into a proper studio and began filming on a bigger stage. But it wasn’t until we moved the operations to New York in October 2015 to shoot daily sessions that things really took off. Now our New York team films more than 40 intimate live performances each month, in addition to the Daytrotter sessions in Davenport. All of these sessions are streamed live on our YouTube and Facebook pages.
