The pop star’s contentious Madison Square Garden nuptials featured a historic performance from the former Beatle.

Did you know Taylor Swift got married last week? As New York City residents endured one of their worst-ever heat waves on record, the pop star married Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce on July 3 at Madison Square Garden. One thousand guests attended the max-security ceremony, and a handful of them performed at the subsequent reception, including Stevie Nicks, Fergie, Ciara, and Paul McCartney. McCartney made the event historic in Beatles terms, too, reportedly dusting off the band’s 1963 hit “I Want to Hold Your Hand” for the first time in over 60 years.

As Rolling Stone points out, not only had “I Want to Hold Your Hand” been absent from Beatles setlists since 1964, but McCartney had never performed it solo until Swift and Kelce’s nuptials. McCartney and Swift’s mutual admiration has been well documented over the years, with Macca attending the Eras Tour back in 2024 and Swift spotted at his Fonda Theater show this past March. McCartney is also fresh off the release of his latest album The Boys of Dungeon Lane, which he promoted with a musical guest appearance on the SNL season finale. After the broadcast ended, he also performed Beatles highlights “Help!” and “Drive My Car” for the studio audience.
