Paste Ilegal Sessions: Watch Peel Dream Magazine in Los Angeles

Paste Studio “On The Road” joined our friends at Ilegal Mezcal for a day of Paste sessions at Marquez Clásico in downtown Los Angeles. As the sun set over nearby Sunset Boulevard, L.A.’s own Peel Dream Magazine played us a pair of songs, including one from their brand new album Rose Main Reading Room.
Full Session
With a name that references the legendary John Peel and a sound the U.K. DJ and host would surely have loved, the four-piece led by Joe Stevens started off with “I Wasn’t Made for War,” off the new record. Olivia Babuka Black’s keys wash over the laidback groove of Ian Gibbs on drums and Ian Lipson that wouldn’t be out of place on The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society.
“I Wasn’t Made for War”
Peel Dream Magazine finished with a song from their 2020 sophomore album, Agitprop Alterna, which was released on the legendary indie-pop label Slumberland Records. Stevens relocated to L.A. from New York four years ago, and his former city informed much of that album.
“Escalator Ism”
Also be sure to check out Peel Dream Magazine’s cover of The Beta Band’s “Dry the Rain,” recorded on the same day.
Thanks to Peel Dream Magazine, Ilegal Mezcal and Marquez Clásico for making this session happen!
