Phoebe Bridgers announces new album Lost Weekend
The singer’s highly anticipated third album is out August 14 on Dead Oceans.
Phoebe Bridgers’ long-awaited follow-up to Punisher now has a release date. Lost Weekend will arrive on August 14 and follows a recent string of intimate, no-phones shows in which she previewed her new music for the first time. “If any of you figured out how to stick an Apple Watch up your ass and record,” she told fans during her $1 Madison Square Garden show, “please don’t put it on the internet.” Since the release of boygenius’ Grammy-winning The Record, Bridgers has mostly receded from public life, eschewing social media, festival appearances, and PR events in favor of privacy.
Though Bridgers has yet to release a tracklist or any singles from Lost Weekend, a series of viral photos showed her in the studio with Matty Healy, Alex G, Jack Antonoff, and boyfriend Bo Burnham. Fans have speculated that the title refers to John Lennon’s infamous “lost weekend,” the 18-month period following his separation from Yoko Ono, marked by heavy substance abuse and some truly wonderful songs. (To be clear, we wish only the wonderful songs upon Bridgers.) Bridgers has long cited Lennon as a musical idol, even name-dropping him in the Punisher track “Moon Song.” What we do know, based on some of our own intrepid reporting, is that Lost Weekend promises to be every bit as wonderful and devastating as the rest of Bridgers’ catalog. Reserve your dark, candlelit rooms and start stockpiling tissues: the beginning of a new Phoebe era is about to begin.
