Pinegrove Release New Single “Moment,” Sign to Rough Trade

Pinegrove have continued attempting to shed their troublesome past skin with the announcement that they’ve signed to Rough Trade Records. They also released a new single, “Moment,” to go along with Wednesday’s news.
This update from Pinegrove comes a year after their latest self-released record Skylight, which sought to bring the group out of the shadow of a “sexual coercion” allegation against frontman Evan Stephens Hall in 2017.
The new single marks a return to form for the group, displaying their signature blend of emo and alt-country—which includes twinkling, picked guitar laid out over the reverberating heartbeat conjured by their drums.
This musical tension on the track—which grows and recedes throughout, but never completely boils over—ties into Hall’s lyrics, with the lines, “I’m in this moment / and I can’t see past it / I’m in this disaster / I’m in this traffic.” In a statement, Hall describes the song as “a way of thinking about gratitude in the context of chaos or tedium.”
