Poptone (ex-Bauhaus/Love & Rockets) Shares “Go!” From Forthcoming Album

If the music and members of Poptone seem familiar, you’re not imagining things. 2/3 of this post-punk outfit—guitarist/vocalist Daniel Ash and drummer Kevin Haskins—have been playing together on and off for four decades in the now-legendary bands Bauhaus, Tones On Tail and Love & Rockets. And for this new trio, capped off by bassist Diva Dompe (who happens to be Haskins’ daughter), they are revisiting the work of those previous outfits, presenting them to a new audience and longtime fans alike.

That’s why you’ll find nothing new on Poptone’s debut album, out on June 8th via Cleopatra Records. The 13 track set is essentially a live recording of the group, made for the long-running radio show Part-Time Punks, and one that captures perfectly the seamy, sexy world of this music and the trio’s committed and vibrant recreations of it. To introduce this album to the world, they are sharing with Paste the first single: a fantastic take on “Go!,” the Tones On Tail classic originally released as a b-side in 1984, but quickly became an new wave dancefloor favorite. Check out the track here and then peep Poptone’s West Coast tour dates below.
