Brighton quartet Porridge Radio have shared the latest single from their forthcoming album Every Bad, out on March 13 via Secretly Canadian. “Circling” follows their previous singles “Lilac” and “Sweet.” Paste recently featured Every Bad in our list of 10 Albums We’re Most Excited About in March. The band will make their U.S. live debut this month in Los Angeles, plus additional stops at SXSW and Brooklyn.
“Circling” is the most inward-looking of their Every Bad cuts so far. Their guitar work is understated and contemplative, and their lyrics are meant to comfort oneself via verbal assurance. Being a band from a seaside U.K. town, it’s no wonder it features lead singer Dana Margolin belting the line “I go inside the sea sometimes” with a passionate snarl.
“A lot of the songs on Every Bad are centred around the sea, and ‘Circling’was one of the last songs focused on the water that I wrote for the album,” says Margolin. “I was thinking on the idea of willing things to be okay by repeating that they are, because I need them to be. I tried to follow the feeling of the flow of waves, and how they keep coming in endlessly, washing everything away without judgment, and then bringing it back again.”
