Watch Pottery Bring Their Blues-Laced Post-Punk to Atlanta’s Paste Studio

Montreal post-punk five-piece Pottery stormed Paste’s Atlanta Studio this week to perform songs from their debut EP No. 1, out now via Partisan Records. Our new Atlanta studio has hosted just over a dozen sessions so far, but Pottery made our desks rumble the most.

They performed four songs: “Spell,” “The Craft” and “Lifeline Costume,” all from their EP, plus a brand new, currently untitled track. Their eight-minute EP closer “Lifeline Costume” was a particular highlight, packed with breakneck guitar solos that ramp up and settle down with wacky precision. Pottery members also gabbed about their favorite fast food. For them the choice is clear: McDonald’s for breakfast, Wendy’s for Lunch and Taco Bell for dinner.

Pottery put on a solid showing at this year’s South By Southwest, and they recently opened for bands like Parquet Courts, Oh Sees and Fontaines D.C. Paste also named No. 1 as one of 10 essential post-punk releases of the year, praising “their freakish art-pop profundity” as well as “their wonky percussion, frisky vocal snarls and lyrics of life’s rat race.”
