PUP Address the Morbid Stuff with Forthcoming Album
Photo by Vanessa HeinsThe Canadian punk-rock destructionists of PUP are back with limbs swinging on the new single “Kids,” the first from their forthcoming new album Morbid Stuff. The album is set for its surely reckless arrival on April 5 from the band’s new label Little Dipper, in association with Rise Records.
“Kids” causes the appropriate amounts of commotion that fans of the band have grown to expect, particularly for those who have willingly entered the pit at a PUP show. The earnest new single from the punk outfitters is how a romantic narrative would be presented if it was carried forward by a skateboard on its way to the liquor store.
“‘Kids’ is a love song from one nihilistic depressive to another,” vocalist Stefan Babcock said in a statement. “It’s about what happens when you stumble across the only other person on the face of this godless, desolate planet that thinks everything is as twisted and as fucked up as you do. And thanks to them, the world starts to seem just a little less bleak. But only slightly—it’s still pretty fucked up to be honest.”
Among the preorder bundle options for Morbid Stuff is what the band is deeming the “Annihilation Preparedness Kit,” which includes the album along with survival necessities such as a waterproof container, a multi-tool cutlery set, a bandaid dispenser and, yes, an inflatable raft.
Listen to the album’s lead single “Kids,” see the details of Morbid Stuff and listen to PUP’s 2014 trip to Daytrotter below. And with equal parts discretion and encouragement, see PUP on tour in the dates listed further down.
