Philadelphia D.I.Y. band Puppy Angst just dropped a gothic power pop song with a dreamy fuzz to it. Alongside their established place in the local scene, the band has been making waves after their SXSW debut this past March, sparking a niche-but-expanding audience.

Puppy Angst’s latest release, “TKO”, is confrontational and ethereal; infectious with a raw energy. With an immediately intense, jarring baseline, it’s difficult to keep from jumping along to the uncontainable melody. Blending shoegaze with energetic hardcore elements,  the song seeks to empower. “Shrink me down a little more ’til I don’t exist / People pleasing’s what I do best,” Alyssa Milman sings, encapsulating a world of self-sacrifice and an inability to look at herself. Shouting the words, she pokes fun at her own avoidance and finds her way out through self-acknowledgement.
