Watch Reggie Watts’ Paste Session at Big Ears Festival

Paste Studio “On The Road” headed south to the Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, Tennessee. Since its formation in 2009, the Big Ears Festival has been known for its diverse lineup and boundary-crossing art. Tombras Headquarters in downtown Knoxville created the perfect urban loft vibe.

A boundary-crossing art festival deserves a boundary-crossing artist, and Reggie Watts’ improvisational expressions fit like a glove. Coming from the underground music scene where he focused on jazz, funk, and experimental music, Watts has created his own style. It’s impossible to separate his music from the comedy he interlaces within.

After performing his first song, “Down Lazarus Road Improvisation,” Watts set the stage for a performance that kept us on your toes. He transitioned into the Reba McEntire classic, “If You Leave Me For Flapjacks Again, I’ll Kill You,” and it’s a continuous surprise of melody and sound, showcasing Watts’ inexhaustible creativity and humor.

Finishing up with his “Least Favorite Song,” you can’t help but move your body. Watts has the special ability to create a rhythmic melody that immerses and connects the audience. The perfect ending to an imaginative and inspirational session.

Huge thanks from the Paste team to everyone at Big Ears and Tombras who helped make such a great video possible. Keep your eyes peeled for more Paste Sessions.
