Regina Spektor Releases Meditative New Single, “Birdsong”
Images via Sire Records/Warner Bros. RecordsRegina Spektor has released a new, short and sweet single, “Birdsong.” First heard on Amazon’s The Romanoffs, the single is a collaboration between Spektor and the show’s creator, Matthew Weiner.
The track, clocking in at a little over a minute and a half, abandons the singer-songwriter’s signature piano in favor of a sparse and somewhat sporadic acoustic guitar. It’s meditative in nature, musing on tranquility in the morning (and the ebb and flow of such) with lines like “Out of the quiet / Out of the sunrise / I hear the birdsong / give way to sirens.”
The release comes just after Spektor’s performance with National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Next month, she will join the likes of Lana Del Rey and Mitski, to name a few, at Jack Antonoff’s fifth annual Ally Coalition Talent Show, benefitting LGBTQ+ communities.
