Acclaimed singer, composer and pianist Regina Spektor was an honored guest Tuesday night at the Upper East Side’s Gracie Mansion for the 17th annual Russian-Speaking Heritage Night event.

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio welcomed the Russian-born and New York City-raised Spektor to the stage at the event reception, praising her multiple contributions to the city’s music, as well as her many philanthropic performances and long history of activism.

de Blasio referred to Spektor’s achievements as part of a “Russian-speaking and New York City success story.” He then proclaimed June 11, 2019, to officially be named “Regina Spektor Day.”

With seven full-length studio albums, a Grammy nomination and upcoming Broadway performances, Spektor has gained notoriety in her initial New York City indie scene and beyond.

In an Instagram post, Spektor shared how the Zac Posen-designed dress she wore to the event paid homage to her Russian heritage and immigration story:

What a day! How do I begin… Today I was honored at the Gracie Mansion by @nycmayorsoffice / @nycmayor as part of their 17th annual Russian Heritage event! There was a proclamation and June 11th, 2019 was officially declared “Regina Spektor Day in New York City”. I’m pretty much speechless- but the joy radiating from my face might have to speak for me… what a magical evening with the New York Russian Community… the mayor was so gracious and the drinks were just the right amount of vodka I will post more pictures but for now there’s some video curtesy of @jackdishel and some pictures too. Also there’s no one I love laughing with more than Jack- can you tell? It was a magical night and as all magical nights must- it ended up in the kitchen with an after party of delicious Russian food (reheated- and those are my mama and papa reflected in the glass of the stove by the way ) Everyone who works with the mayor and in Gracie Mansion are lovely, fun and awesome! Also- any party that ends in the kitchen is a great party! I got to feel like a real Russian Cinderella thanks to this beautiful @zacposen / @zaczacposen dress! For a night celebrating immigrants it felt like a wonderful homage to wear this incredible dress, which just so happens to echo our great green “Mother of Exiles” standing in the harbor. Let’s keep lifting our lamps “beside the golden door” and welcoming next waves of immigrants to our great city of immigrants! Whoever you are- wherever you are traveling from- We love you and we welcome you here! ???????!!! #thankyou #adayofonesown #russianjewishcinderella #mamaandpapailoveyou #immigrants #didimentionTHANKYOU
