Regina Spektor’s music video for “Black and White” is one of her most beautiful. Filmed in Chicago’s decaying Uptown Theater, the video showcases the immense talent of ballerina Victoria Jaiani. The theater, which has been out of operation in recent years, was specially opened and lit for Spektor’s music video.
On display is an intricately crafted, visually stunning theatre that has fallen into disrepair. It is to director Daniel Ryan’s credit that, even in its state of decay, the theater radiates with the same charm and intimacy Jaiani projects in her self-choreographed dance.
