Richard Branson Is Starting His Own Music Festival

Sir Richard Branson, mogul of airways, airwaves and just about everything else, has announced a new conquest for the Virgin empire: music festivals. Launching in 2019, Virgin Fest will feature “a mixture of diverse music acts, cutting-edge technological experiences, exclusive content and a commitment to sustainability,” according to a press release from the company. The festival series does not have a confirmed date or location as of yet, but Branson says that Virgin Fest will take place in the U.S.

The announcement follows the unveiling of Branson’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Tuesday morning. Branson explained his enthusiasm for the project in a statement, saying that “the heart of the Virgin brand has always been music and entertainment,” and that while he’s humbled by the inclusion of his name on the Walk of Fame, he “can’t help but think we are really just getting started.”

Branson started Virgin Records in 1972, finding success with artists like The Sex Pistols, The Rolling Stones and more. Branson soon expanded the Virgin brand to include air travel, cellular coverage, hotels and even space travel. No doubt the company’s establishment in various industries will be integrated into the festival to make it an almost entirely Virgin-centric affair.

Announcements regarding dates, location, lineup and ticket sales will be made at a later date.
