Swedish pop songwriter Robyn has shared the latest video from her 2018 album Honey. This time, it’s for the album’s seventh track, “Between the Lines.” The video was directed by Chris Critcheloe, aka SSION, who also worked with Robyn on her visuals for “Love is Free.” The video follows Robyn on a four-day adventure through the Spanish island of Ibiza that’s intended to express something “intimate, messy, sweaty, silly and slightly voyeuristic,” according to SSION.
“Robyn is one of my favorite artists to collaborate with and making this video with her allowed for a lot of playfulness in embracing the extremes of being in a place like Ibiza … the aggressive tackiness of tourist culture slapped up against the serene beach vibes,” SSION said of the video. “It reminded me of when I first started making videos on a mini dv camera—no pretense, DIY, run & gun … just being in the moment. We also wanted to keep the edit rude and leave in a lot of the in-camera audio of us giggling, talking & screaming—just a complete disregard for pop music video formalities to create something that feels very fun and alive.”
Honey was Robyn’s first proper album in eight years, her last one being 2010’s Body Talk. It arrived as one of the most critically acclaimed albums of the year, landing at number 19 on Paste’s list of the best albums of 2018 and near the top of our list of the year’s best pop albums. Robyn recently performed the Honey closer “Ever Again” on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
Robyn is embarking on an extensive European tour behind Honey that kicks off in Munich, Germany tonight. Watch the video for “Between the Lines” and check out Robyn’s full list of tour dates below.
