Radiohead, Janet Jackson, The Cure, Stevie Nicks Lead Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s 2019 Inductees

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has unveiled its Class of 2019 inductees, as announced Thursday by the organization: The Cure, Def Leppard, Janet Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Radiohead, Roxy Music and The Zombies.

The biggest surprise is perhaps Radiohead, who missed out despite nabbing a nomination in their first year of eligibility in 2018, 25 years after the release of their debut album Pablo Honey. Paste had the groundbreaking British band as a long-shot in our predictions for the Class of 2019, based on this year’s list of nominees, but both Radiohead and Roxy Music made it into this year’s class.

Rock Hall inductees for Radiohead include Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O’Brien and Philip Selway.

“The band thanks the Hall of Fame voting body and extends congratulations to this year’s fellow inductees,” said a press release shared on the band’s behalf.

Ambient pioneer Brian Eno will enter the Hall for his work on the first two Roxy Music albums, as well as leader Bryan Ferry and members John Gustafson, Eddie Jobson, Andy Mackay, Phil Manzanera, Graham Simpson and Paul Thompson.

Jackson has now been inducted into the Hall this year after two previous nominations, while Nicks is now the first woman to be inducted twice, once in 1998 as a member of Fleetwood Mac, and now again as a solo artist.

Jackson thanked fans for their support on Twitter this morning, backed by Questlove, who congratulated the pop legend on her “LONG WAY overdue” induction into the Rock Hall.

In February, Questlove, a voting member of the Rock Hall, campaigned for Jackson’s inclusion on Instagram. “This was NOONEs [sic] kid sister,” The Roots frontman wrote in his post, adding that “of all the double standard injustices, her not being inducted is HIGHLY criminal.”

As expected, rounding out this year’s class are: Def Leppard, who, per Cleveland.com, topped this year’s fan vote at the time it closed; The Cure, inducted after their second nomination; and The Zombies, after their fourth.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2019 Induction Ceremony will be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 29, 2019.
