Talk of a new solo album from legendary Pink Floydsongwriter/singer/bassist Roger Waters has been going around for a couple of years now. In his three-year tour of The Wall, one could see a new spark and fire in Waters that only seems to have grown since then. His headlining set at the 2015 Newport Folk Festival opened with the debut of a new song, “Crystal Clear Brooks,” which, in its alignment with Waters’ occasionally divisive but always well-thought-out politics, has seemingly set the tone for the forthcoming record.
While the album, his first since 1992’s Amused to Death, is still very much in the works, excitement seems warranted as Waters is working with famed Radioheadproducer Nigel Godrich. Discussing the work with Rolling Stone back in October, Waters said that he and Godrich have “some really good work in the can,” and that some of the songs were taken from “a long, meandering” radio play he had written that he describes as “part magic carpet ride, part political rant, part anguish.”
Recently, though, Waters took to Instagram posting pictures of himself, along with Godrich, working in the studio—you’ll find those below. The most recent of these was a short video showing Godrich excitedly jamming along as Roger records bass to some music that should definitely make Pink Floydfans happy.
The upcoming Us+Them Tour will take Waters across most of North America over the course of 2017, and he has promised new material along with plenty of Floyd classics in what promises to be one of the best concert experiences of the year.
