Daily Dose: Rogov, “It’s Now Tomorrow”

Daily Dose is your daily source for the song you absolutely, positively need to hear every day. Curated by the Paste Music Team.

Multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Gregory Rogove has shared another new song under his Rogov solo moniker, “It’s Now Tomorrow.” The daydream-like piece of psych-pop is the longtime Devendra Banhart collaborator’s fifth new single in as many months, following “Empty House,” “She’s a Tangerine,” “Start Again (The Wind At Your Back)” and “The Sun Keeps on Shining.”

“It’s Now Tomorrow” is as spacey as its paradoxical title suggests, moving from a woozy guitar-and-synth intro into Rogove’s breathy reflections on love and time. His vocals sound like a literal voice inside your head, flowing from one headphone to the other like liquid in the inner ear, searching for balance. The song moves “beyond me, beyond you,” as Rogove sings, through the doors of perception and into another time—another world.

Rogove, who continues to distinguish himself as a solo musician, has long served as Banhart’s drummer, having recorded and toured with the musician since 2007. His extensive resume also includes projects like Piana, Megapuss (with Banhart), Priestbird and Tarantula AD, in addition to his work with the likes of Rodrigo Amarante, Niia, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Natalia LaFourcade, CocoRosie, Sons of the Sea (Brandon Boyd), Zavalaz (members of Mars Volta) and Adam Green.
