Royel Otis at The Eastern [Photos]
Photos by Donny EvansLast week, Royel Otis made a stop at The Eastern in Atlanta on their ongoing Glory to Glory tour, in celebration of the recently-released deluxe-edition of their debut album, PRATTS & PAIN. The duo performed a rousing 20-song set, featuring their song of the decade contender “Oysters in My Pocket” and making stops at “Heading for the Door,” “Fried Rice,” “Sofa King” and “Big Ciggie” along the way.
Earlier this year, Royel Otis found themselves in the midst of a two-part virality, first for their cover of Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder on the Dancefloor,” and then again for their cover of the Cranberries’ “Linger,” both of which appeared in their Eastern setlist.
Last month, Royel Otis were featured as Paste digital cover stars, where editor Matt Mitchell wrote that “there’s something to be said for how good Royel Otis sound so early on in their career, how two Sydney kids funneled their mashed-up ideas through a gear gonzo’s extensive collection of synths and sequencers—and all without sacrificing the noisy, rock-driven baseline that frames so much of their material.”
“Royel Otis are resound, their style enduring as undeniable and immediate,” Mitchell continued. “It’s a remarkable thing to witness and, in due time, ‘Linger’ and ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ will be mere footnotes.”
