Sabrina Carpenter granted restraining order against alleged stalker

Sabrina Carpenter has been granted a restraining order requiring that 31-year-old William Applegate remain 100 yards away from her, her sister Sarah, and Sarah’s partner, all three of whom live in Carpenter’s Hollywood Hills home. Applegate had been caught repeatedly on the singer’s Ring camera; Carpenter maintains she has never met him. On May 23, Applegate allegedly breached the gate of Carpenter’s home and attempted to enter, “unannounced and uninvited.”

Carpenter stated that Applegate “physically grabbed the lever of my front door and forcefully pushed it down, actively trying to force his way inside my home without any invitation, permission, or consent whatsoever.” He claimed to know Carpenter and said she was expecting him, a statement Carpenter called “a complete lie.” After her security team physically removed Applegate, he refused to leave the property and was taken into custody by the LAPD.

Upon his release from jail, Applegate returned to Carpenter’s home the next two days, sleeping in his car near her driveway. When Jorge Lepe, one of Carpenter’s security guards, interrogated Applegate about his presence on May 24, Applegate responded that he was “just chilling in my car” before driving away. Another security guard, Hasan Brown, alleged to have seen Applegate park ten feet away from Carpenter’s home on May 25 and fully recline his seat in an effort to conceal himself. Brown further alleged that he has seen Applegate’s vehicle parked in the vicinity of Carpenter’s house since late April, “with the vehicle progressively parking in closer proximity” over time.

Carpenter said in her statement that “the totality of Applegate’s conduct has caused me significant and ongoing fear for my personal safety and the safety of all individuals residing in my home.” She called Applegate’s actions “among the most disturbing violations of personal safety and privacy I have ever experienced,” noting that his “delusional insistence that he knows me and was expected by me is indicative of a dangerous, delusional, and irrational fixation on me.” A follow-up hearing is scheduled for June 17, with Applegate due in criminal court the next day for arraignment on one count of trespassing.
