English singer-songwriter Sam Fender made his highly anticipated return to the United States after three years. Playing New York’s Terminal 5 on September 19, fans had the rare opportunity to see him in an intimate, 3,000-person capacity venue. The 3x BRIT Award winner spent the summer headlining stadiums in the United Kingdom and Ireland, notably playing three sold-out nights at St. James Park with 150,000 fans in attendance. His third studio album, People Watching, earned Fender the biggest opening week of his career, earning the #1 spot on the Billboard U.K. Albums Chart upon its release in February 2025. His music addresses grief, class disparities and growing up working class in northeast England, diving into toxic masculinity, British neoliberalism and childhood memories riddled with drugs and suicide. Fender performed hits “Hypersonic Missiles,” “Seventeen Going Under,” and “People Watching” in NYC on Friday, and an unreleased song, “Talk To You.” His tour will continue through Washington, D.C., Chicago and other cities across the U.S.
