Screaming Females Announce New Album, Release Video for “Glass House”
Photo by Farrah SkeikyMarissa Paternoster of Screaming Females doesn’t always scream, but when she does, it’s not for the namesake. In the band’s video for “Glass House,” the metaphorical scream of the song is subdued until the climax and brief denouement: the sound of glass shattering in the final shot.
“Glass House” is the band’s second single off of their forthcoming seventh album All At Once, out Feb. 23 via Don Giovanni, as well as a mom-approved biblical reference to “thou shalt not hypocrisy.” While no stones are thrown in the video, the band members (including King Mike and drummer Jarrett Dougherty) sit in a bland room while a tux-wearing waiter breaks glass vases over their heads amid spinning clips of Paternoster lying supine in stasis.
Their first single “Black Moon” dealt with loneliness in the chorus (“Now we all dream alone”), and now the refrain in “Glass House” makes sure we know modern life to be an iPhone 8X prison, or something of the same make (“My life in this glass house, impossible to get out”). All At Once was recorded with Soundgarden/Mastodon/Pearl Jam producer Matt Bayles, who also worked with the band on their last album, Rose Mountain, and former Fugazi drummer Brendan Canty features on a track.
This year in music is fearing the future, and for better or for worse, it will be music to our ears. You can preorder All At Once here, and find the video for “Glass House,” Screaming Females’ 2013 Daytrotter Session and their tour dates below.
