Watch a Beautiful Claymation Music Video from Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Completed Before Her Passing
Image via Daptone Records/YouTubeSharon Jones & The Dap-Kings just released a poignant claymation video for their rendition of Charles Brown’s oft-covered “Please Come Home For Christmas,” sure to tap into holiday sentimentality and the heartache of Jones’ recent passing.
The clilp follows an elderly man preparing to spend Christmas alone. He misses his partner, who is away for some reason, and leaves his house to send her a card. Singing animated figures of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings provide lovely accompaniment for his melancholy and the snowy, blue-tinted scenery. Eventually the gentleman returns home to find that his partner has come to surprise him, with the band in tow.
Although the video was made before Jones’ death, its depiction of reuniting with an absent loved one has since become even more touching. A statement included with the video’s release reads, “We wish you could be home with us this Christmas Sharon. We love you and miss you.”
“Please Come Home For Christmas” is taken from the band’s final album, last year’s It’s a Holiday Soul Party.
