PREMIERE: Sixpence None the Richer Drop Video For “Rosemary Hill”

In 2023, we named Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me” the 15th greatest one-hit wonder of all time, and we stand by that a year later. “It gives you permission to indulge in the gushiest, most saccharine parts of yourself,” Paste contributor Miranda Wollen wrote. Last week, the rock outfit—formed by Matt Slocum and Leigh Nash in New Braunfels, Texas more than 30 years ago—dropped Rosemary Hill, their first collection of new material since their 2012 LP Lost in Translation. The EP marks the first collection of songs featuring the band’s original lineup in more than 20 years, as Slocum, Nash, Justin Cary and Dale Baker are back and as catchy as ever.

On songs like “We Are Love” and the title track, Rosemary Hill takes the band’s rock roots and pairs them with a bit of twangy, alt-tinged distortion. On “Rosemary Hill”—the video for which we are premiering this morning—Nash sounds especially good on it, delivering anthemic, mighty singing that helps the synth textures ascend through the mash of crushing guitars. “Rosemary Hill” is Sixpence None the Richer’s beautiful ode to the band’s Texas beginnings; “That was a long time ago,” Nash croons, “but the feelings, they don’t get old.”

“I am so thankful for this band, each human in it, and the music we have made and will continue to,” Nash says. “Rosemary Hill marks a new chapter for us and I am thrilled!” Slocum echoes his bandmate’s joy, saying that “New Braunfels was a magical place to grow up in the ’70’s and ’80’s.” “‘Rosemary Hill’ is a sonic and visual love letter to our beloved hometown,” he adds. “We certainly felt loved back in the process of making this video! Truly a full circle moment for the band.”

The music video for “Rosemary Hill” was directed by Lindsay Jamieson and Jeff Wyatt Wilson, produced by Matt Slocum and edited by Austin Engler. Watch below:
