Jake Ewald’s Slaughter Beach, Dog supergroup have released the third cut from their forthcoming album Safe And Also No Fear, a bouncy folk-rock track titled “Heart Attack.”
“Heart Attack” pairs layers of rhythmic, acoustic chords and distant organs with lyrics underlined by a feeling of unease and anxiety. “I’m leaving you a message / I’m having a heart attack / I’m waiting up for you to call me back,” Ewald laments, expressing a somewhat ubiquitous fear with a slightly obsessive angle.
The song’s accompanying music video seems to express the fear of being left high and dry more explicitly. The visual finds Marietta drummer Andrew Weigel obsessively checking his flip-phone in various states of tuxedoed disarray and holding up various items with “Call Me Back” written across them. At one point, Weigel plays a guitar defaced with a statement that somehow perfectly sums up Slaughter Beach, Dog as a whole: This machine kills fascists—also, call me back.
The single further explores the darker territory the band delve into on Safe And Also No Fear, which is described in a press release as capturing “what it feels like to be a person who is constantly confused and anxious, yet completely committed to finding a way through it.” You can revisit the album’s details here.
