Janet Weiss’ Band Quasi Announces Fall Tour Coinciding with Sleater-Kinney’s Dates
Photo by Scott Dudelson/GettyLet the Kill Bill sirens sound off: Newly departed Sleater-Kinney drummer Janet Weiss has announced a West Coast tour with Quasi, her long-running band with ex-husband Sam Coomes, and it looks like the shows overlap with the opening leg of her former band’s upcoming North American tour.
The announcement follows Weiss’ exit from Sleater-Kinney earlier this month, which the drummer explained was the result of the band “heading in a new direction.” Prior to her departure, Weiss was slated to perform with bandmates Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker on an extensive headlining tour in support of the band’s forthcoming album The Center Won’t Hold.
At this point, it’s not entirely clear whether the split was amicable: Brownstein wrote in an Instagram post two weeks after Weiss’ exit that the band is “picking up the pieces when someone quits, because we have to and want to,” and it looks like the overlapping tour is another nail in the coffin.
Sleater-Kinney’s forthcoming studio effort will arrive Aug. 16 via Mom + Pop, and you can revisit the album details here.
