American rock duo Sleater-Kinney have released a new, stand-alone track titled “Animal” following the release of their album The Center Won’t Hold, which came out in August.
“Animal” shares the raw, yet meticulous sonic qualities of the album, making for a visceral, cathartic and intense listen. Guitarist and vocalist Corin Tucker explains in a statement, “‘Animal’ is a song about rebellion, retaliation and rage. It is a song about letting go of all politeness and filters and letting the ‘animal’ side speak. The vocals for this song were recorded in St. Vincent’s home studio, a perfect place to unleash a voice like this.”
With their 2019 tour about to kick off, the group hired a new touring drummer, Angie Boylan, to fill the vacancy left by Janet Weiss in July. Sleater-Kinney start their North American run in Spokane, Wash., next Wednesday, Oct. 9.
