Listen to “Suburban Yellow,” the Hard-Hitting New Single From Slow Mass

Chicago-based band Slow Mass debuted in 2016 via Bandcamp with an EP titled Treasure Pains. This EP laid out the band’s intense melodies and high energy across six individual tracks. The indie-rock quartet now return to release their debut LP, On Watch, set to drop May 11 via Landland.

On Thursday, the band previewed the forthcoming album with their fourth and final single, “Suburban Yellow,” which premiered over on Stereogum. Previously released songs off the album included “Blocks,” “Schemes” and “Oldest Youngest.”

“Suburban Yellow” is a slowed-down track with a hard-hitting, almost stoner rock-like quality. The vocal back-and-forth between bassist Mercedes Webb and guitarist Dave Collis in the chorus perfectly blends the two musicians’ naturally compatible voices. We cannot help but bob our heads in synchronicity with the song’s musical trance.

Slow Mass features musicians Webb and Collis, alongside drummer Dave Maruzzella and guitarist/keyboardist Josh Parks. Josh Sparks, who drummed on numerous On Watch tracks but left the band to join Minus the Bear, is listed as “former but still family” on the band’s Facebook page.

To celebrate the release of On Watch, Slow Mass are embarking on a North American tour that kicks off with the LP’s release party at Chicago’s Schubas. The tour will take the quartet through many cities throughout the U.S. and Canada, including New York, Cleveland and Boston, before ending their run in Grand Rapids, Mich. on June 19.
