Post-Coldplay Britpop band Snow Patrol have always been sweethearts at their core. After all, their most famous single is all about chastely daydreaming with your loved one, with not a hint of darkness to be found in lead singer Gary Lightbody’s vocals. And it seems like Snow Patrol are back to their Grey’s Anatomy days with their new ode to tender lovin’, “Time Won’t Go Slowly.”
The new single’s release Tuesday coincides with the band’s 25th anniversary. Snow Patrol began under the alias Shrug in 1994 before breaking into the mainstream with 2006’s bestselling Eyes Open, buoyed by five-times-platinum trans-Atlantic smash “Chasing Cars.”
“Time Won’t Go Slowly” is Snow Patrol’s first single since they released their well-received comeback album last year, Wildness. “You are the answer to / Every question I’ve asked,” Lightbody muses on the track over a chamber-pop beat filled with dramatically cresting strings and piano, creating a swooning, heart leaping into your throat feeling appropriate for crooning romantic balladry. The song feels destined for a 20-something’s make-out mood Spotify playlist, in the best way.
