Today, Sparks—brothers Ron and Russell Mael—have released a new single, “Do Things My Own Way.” It’s no doubt a teaser for what’s to come for the duo, which is their 28th studio album. MAD! is set to release sometime in 2025 via Transgressive Records, their new label home. The Maels have also announced tour dates in the UK, Japan and elsewhere in Europe.
Last year, after naming it the #1 synth-pop album ever, we published a long profile on Sparks in celebration of their influential 1979 album, No. 1 in Heaven, getting a long overdue reissue. And then, in the summer of 2024, we named No. 1 in Heaven the 138th greatest album of all time.
