Watch Sadie Dupuis Cover the Veronica Mars Theme Song, Recreate the Show’s Opening Titles

Sadie Dupuis, the lead singer and founder of Northampton, Mass.-based indie-rock band Speedy Ortiz, released an abbreviated cover of “We Used To Be Friends” by The Dandy Warhols via social media on Monday.

The track, originally recorded by the British alt-rockers, appeared on their 2003 synth-pop-filled LP, Welcome To The Monkey House.

It served as the theme song for Veronica Mars, starring Kristen Bell. It also appeared in episodes of The O.C. and Wonderfalls.

Dupuis said in a tweet that her cover of the iconic (and also her favorite) theme was released in celebration of her birthday. It is available on YouTube and SoundCloud.

The cover follows the release of Speedy Ortiz’s latest LP, 2018’s Twerp Verse, which spawned popular tracks such as “Lucky 88” and “Villain.” Dupuis also recently appeared on Devin McKnight’s new single as Maneka, “My Queen.”

Speedy Ortiz are currently on tour through November, playing shows with CHVRCHES, SASAMI and Alex Cameron, among others.

Check out the nostalgic cover and Dupuis’ Bell-esque look in her birthday tribute to herself below, and revisit her 2017 Paste session as Sad13 further down.
