Philadelphia skronk-rockers Spirit of the Beehive are back with a hallucinogenic new video for “nail i couldn’t bite.”
Presented in “documa-vision” (i.e., directed by Bobby Markos), the video takes viewers on a journey to the moon and back via carefully edited archival imagery and retro-futurist aesthetics. Its colors are muted, with careful gradients used to highlight the subtitled lyrics throughout the video. The song buries its hooks … somewhere. Somewhere beyond where you’d normally look for a tune this subtly catchy.
In other words, the video for “nail i couldn’t bite” perfectly matches the sonic palette of Hypnic Jerks, the album from which it’s taken. A press release describes Hypnic Jerks as “an ongoing fantasy” that “has the quality of an indescribable dream fading from memory as you slowly begin to regain consciousness.” Ethereal indeed.
Spirit of the Beehive are also hitting the road this summer, featuring stops in Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Denver, Seattle and many more. Zone out with the video for “nail i couldn’t bite” below, and come back to this planet by checking out the official tour poster and dates beneath that.
