Britt Daniel Gets Photoshopped Into Oblivion in Spoon’s “Do I Have To Talk You Into It” Video

Austin rockers Spoon are sitting pretty: Their ninth studio album Hot Thoughts, released in March, remains one of the year’s most renowned releases, ranking in the top five of Paste’s picks for the best albums of 2017 so far. Now, Britt Daniel and company have shared another visual accompaniment to their acclaimed album, debuting the video for “Do I Have To Talk You Into It.”

Directed by Brook Linder (Nine Inch Nails, Beck), the video toys with the format of your typical Photoshop tutorial YouTube video, bending their conventions into something more brilliantly unsettling and almost sinister. Manipulated by the dexterous mouse of an unseen editor, Daniel’s image is transformed, taken apart and outright erased over the course of the video.

“Clearly it was time Lou Reed’s ‘No Money Down’ video was remade for the 21st century,” said Daniel in a statement. “We did the research, and it turns out 80 percent of our fan base is composed of graphic designers. This one’s for y’all.”
