Strange Ranger Announce New Album Pure Music, Share “She’s On Fire”

Capitalizing on the momentum of 2023 single “Rain So Hard,” Portland, Oregon-based synth-rockers Strange Ranger—Isaac Eiger, Fred Nixon, Fiona Woodman and Nathan Tucker—have announced their third LP Pure Music. Arriving on July 21 via Fire Talk, it’s their boldest musical project yet, as the band experiments with the intersections of shoegaze, disco, house and noise-pop. New single “She’s On Fire” is a raucous rock odyssey that tumbles into a glittering, cinematic cove of synthesizers. “And I would have thought / The rhythm of the club might lead somewhere / Out from all this rain crashed off of lawn chairs / 20 years from now, who’s right? / And I could die / In pure music / Ringing from the sky,” Eiger and Woodman harmonize.

“When you’re young, it feels like life has a kind of arc to it and up ahead in the future, there’s some point where all your experiences converge and this fog of confusion will lift and you will have arrived,” Eiger says of “She’s On Fire.” “This is definitely not true and increasingly, music is the steadying hand I lean on when looking for meaning. It provides a spiritualism that feels absent from much of my life and I want to be as close to that feeling as possible.”
