Sunflower Bean Announce Fourth Album, Share New Single “Champagne Taste”
Nearly three years since the release of their LP Headful of Sugar, Sunflower Bean return with their first self-produced record.

Rock trio Sunflower Bean are back with their scorching new single “Champagne Taste”—the opening track from their fourth album, Mortal Primetime, out April 25. Nearly three years have passed since they released Headful of Sugar, and in the meantime the band members, now in their late 20s, have been reckoning with massive life changes, from a cross-country move to coming out. Nevertheless, they came together to self-produce this new record, which was mixed by Caesar Edmunds (The Killers, Wet Leg) and engineered by Sarah Tudzin (Illuminati Hotties, Boygenius). This is Sunflower Bean at their hungriest; as lead singer / bassist Julia Cumming puts it, “You get to decide what your prime is, and you fight for it. This is ours, and that can’t be taken away by circumstance. We can’t take it away from each other. This moment, where we are now, is what we’ve always fought for.”
“Champagne Taste” oozes old school rock n’ roll swagger:.Cumming’s voice beckons you with a barbed charm, while Nick Kivlen’s guitar zings and Olive Faber’s drums crash behind her. The music video, directed by Isaac Roberts (who previously worked with Sunflower Bean on the videos for their 2024 EP Shake), is also a throwback to those of yesteryear. Cumming’s profile looms large as her bandmates adorn the sterile white background; in other shots, Kivlen is surrounded by a clock and Faber brandishes a knife. There’s an edge to it all, and every line out of Cumming’s mouth sounds like a dare.
