Sunflower Bean Are “Twentytwo” and Blue in Their Carefree New Video
Images via Urban Outfitters Television/YouTubeSunflower Bean’s sophomore album is very nearly here, and the New York trio, who recently released its title track, have now shared the visual accompaniment to “Twentytwo.”
Director Olivia Bee’s vision for the beauty pageant-themed “Twentytwo” video draws inspiration from Sunflower Bean’s album title, depicting the band as Twentytwo in Blue in both age and color. The song’s message about resilience and resistance in the face of oppressive social expectations is reflected in the video, as vocalist/bassist Julia Cumming, vocalist/guitarist Nick Kivlen and drummer Jacob Faber cast off their sashes and hit the road.
Bee explains in a statement:
I loved metaphorically speaking about the reality of being a woman, but letting that reality exist whilst tapping into the magical blues of Twentytwo in Blue. This song showcases our strengths and individual beauties when we remove the masks that have been given to us by our society, and I wanted the video to reflect that.
The “Twentytwo” video was produced by Urban Outfitters and features outfits from the retailer. Sunflower Bean will headline UO’s SXSW showcase in Austin on March 16.
Previous singles from Twentytwo in Blue include “Crisis Fest” and “I Was a Fool.” You can revisit the details of their forthcoming album, out on March 23 via Mom + Pop, right here.
