SUSTO Announces Fifth LP My Entire Life With Brand New Music Video

SUSTO is no stranger to asking his audience to dig deep for meaning. The name Justin Osborne chose to perform under is derived from Latin American cultures explaining an intense fear understood as a condition of the soul. For Osborne, the name was perfect to encapsulate a period of time where he was abandoning his religion, losing touch with his family and losing a sense of direction. In recent years, Osborne has gone through more changes. He’s found music to help process his hardships, and turn SUSTO’s work into healing. “Playing with music and writing has been a big part in helping me get through it all and ride it out,” Osborne says.

The psych-alternative folk band’s newest music video for “My Entire Life,” the title track for their just-announced LP, is also filled with layered meanings, references and stunning visuals. The song serves as the overarching theme for the LP and describes Osborne’s personal highs and lows while narrating the end of a marriage and the joys of falling in love again. The single is an ode to life and written about the affects of losing a close friend to suicide.

“It was really sudden…it caused a group of us to pause and ponder life together—meaning, loss, struggle, beauty,” Osborne said. The song was co-written by Mel Washington, Wolfgang Zimmerman, and Dylan Dawkins. Osborne explained that “My Entire Life” was created in the midst of a group of friends experiencing a loss together, and regards the song as a building block for the LP.

To add another layer, the video slyly references an earlier SUSTO song, “Chillin’ On The Beach With My Best Friend Jesus,” as Jesus sips on a beer as an Easter egg within the music video.

“My favorite visual is probably the child rapidly changing into an old man. It’s like speeding up time in a manufactured way,” Osborne says. “The music video portrays the realization of life being a blip, but also individualized moments.”

Sozo Bear Films created the music video with a technique called stable diffusion, which is a type of deep learning generative neural network with the ability to prompt, render and process AI imagery. This technique is used to achieve a psychedelic, trippy effect that reflects SUSTO’s sound. Luke Pilgrim, the video director for “My Entire Life,” mixed live performance and AI together in a new artistic format.

My Entire Life releases on July 28 via New West Records. “I want people to come see us bring this record to life when we go on the road,” Osborne says. “I’m excited for people to experience the magic felt within our live performance.”
