Watch Paramore Perform Mashup of SZA’s “20 Something” and Their Song “Grow Up”
Photo by Kevin Winter/GettySZA shared a video on her Twitter of Paramore performing a rendition of her CTRL track “20 Something,” mashed up with the band’s own “Grow Up.” SZA seemed to enjoy the video, writing, “Literally slap me … Wow. Go OFF queen.”
The mashup seems to be a very organic pairing of the two songs. Paramore’s “Grow Up,” a song about learning from experience, ties in naturally to SZA’s millennial coming-of-age anthem. Paramore’s lead singer Hayley Williams’ flair for a pop-rock sound only adds to the lyrics.
Singer-songwriter SZA (short for either “Sovereign Zig-Zag Allah” or “Savior Zig-Zag Allah”) was recently named Paste’s top new artist of 2017. The Recording Academy recently announced that SZA will perform at the 2018 Grammy Awards on Jan. 10 along with Kesha, Childish Gambino, Lady GaGa and Pink. SZA is nominated for five Grammys, including Best New Artist and Best New Contemporary Album for CTRL, which we named one of 2017’s best albums.
