When Taylor Phelan auditioned for NBC’s The Voice, all four judges turned their chairs around to beg for the young star to join their team. Phelan eventually chose Pharrell to be his mentor, and although he didn’t win, he gained some valuable experience and a fanbase that’s avidly following his solo career as an indie-rock singer-songwriter. You can now watch the video for the up-and-comer’s wistful recently released track, “Settle Down,” exclusively at Paste.
“Settle Down,” the first single from Phelan’s forthcoming debut EP, 1 of 2, is a strong choice for a leading track. Phelan’s vocal is no joke; he hits high notes effortlessly and gracefully, making listening to the track just as entertaining as watching the video, which features a variety of surreal visuals. “I had a blast working on this video. We set out to make something that was mainly interesting to watch but also metaphorical,” says Phelan. “The director, the cast and crew were a total dream to work with. We packed a lot into a three-minute music video and I think we created something really special.”
