Scottish alt-rockers Teenage Fanclub have announced the dates for their 2019 North American run, marking the band’s first tour without founding member Gerard Love, who left the band last month.
The band spent much of 2018 revisiting and reissuing five of their earlier releases, namely Bandwagonesque, Thirteen, Grand Prix, Songs From Northern Britain and Howdy!, on vinyl. They’re currently finishing a run of shows in the U.K.—playing back-catalog tracks from the reissues—before Love is set to “turn in his Fanclub membership,” according to a press release, as the rest of the band continue on for their 2019 dates.
However, this tour isn’t expected to be a final run for the band, as they alluded to new music on the way “sooner than later” after Love’s departure.
“The three of us have spread the burden of songwriting over the years, so there will be a bit more work involved creatively,” said Norman Blake in a statement. “We don’t feel pressure to get somebody in as a songwriter to replace Gerry. Whatever happens, I know that we’ll create something that we’ll be happy to put our name behind.”
