The Telepathic Butterflies – Songs From A Second Wave

The Telepathic Butterflies instantaneously and convincingly revive 1960s Britpop with their third release, Songs from a Second Wave. The band’s greatest strength is certainly its hooks, most notably on “A Passing Glance”—the album’s strongest track. Songs from a Second Wave nestles snugly between Meet the Beatles! and A Hard Day’s Night, stylistically. Beyond a simple Brit Invasion platform, The Telepathic Butterflies also incorporate a tinge of stateside ’60s rock, harkening back to a time when surf and California sun (a la The Beach Boys) was all the rage. And to mix it up, the Butterflies dip their toes into more psychedelic sounds on “Big Bang” and “Rescue Mission.” The album flows cohesively from start to finish and faster than you might realize with such catchy tunes.
