Tenacious D, the comedy-rock duo of Jack Black and Kyle Gass, have announced that they will be releasing two works, both titled Post-Apocalypto, this fall.
The first Post-Apocalypto, a six-part, animated web series (originally conceived as a feature), will premiere on Tenacious D’s YouTube channel on Sept. 28. The series is entirely hand-drawn by Black, and features voice work from both him and Gass. Following the series premiere, a new episode will be released every Friday. Each episode will feature a new Tenacious D song, culminating in the release of Post-Apocalypto the album on Nov. 2 through Columbia Records. The album features Dave Grohl on drums.
The series (and presumably the album) focus on “a world of complete and utter destruction following the drop of an atomic bomb,” according to a press release. From there, it looks to proceed in the manner of most fantasy stories, with such classic tropes as “an insane visit to the White House, a time machine, a space adventure,” and of course, “some tried and true daddy issues.”
