Belmont University in Nashville, Tenn. is a hotbed for budding indie and country acts. Groups like Moon Taxi have an origin there, as do soloists like country singers Trisha Yearwood and Brad Paisley and, to a lesser degree, Faye Webster, who attended for a year.

Another group you may not know got their start on Belmont’s campus is The Apache Relay, the indie folk outfit who gained fame in the late 2010s for their Bon Iver-informed Americana, despite having only released two albums. They opened for nu-folk forefathers Mumford & Sons and played Bonnaroo.

In 2014, the group released their self-titled album, their last release to date. Apache Relay features their indie hit “Katie Queen of Tennessee.” On this day (Nov. 5) in 2014, the band played a special Paste session in Chicago.
