The Avalanches Share Funky New Single, “Subways”

Music News

In 2000, The Avalanches dropped their debut EP, Since I l Left You, and there’s been no word of a sophomore album until this year. The Australian electronic engineers announced their comeback in April and have been sharing previews of Wildflower, which is expected to be released on July 8.

The album will feature the likes of Toro y Moi, Father John Misty, Biz Markie, Camp Lo, Warren Ellis and more. The Avalanches have already revealed “Frankie Sinatra” featuring MF Doom and Danny Brown, as well as the wistful “Colours,” which enlists the vocals of Mercury Rev’s Jonathan Donahue.

The band now gives us “Subways,” a super-danceable track that includes samples of Graham Bonnet’s take on the Bee Gees’ “Warm Ride” and ‘80s preteen singer Chandra’s “Subways.” The track was released alongside a clip that features two animated line drawings by Melbourne-based artist Emi Ueoka.
