Watch The Cure Play B-Sides from Disintegration Live at Sydney Festival

In 2019, The Cure celebrate 30 years of Disintegration, their iconic eighth studio album that spawned worldwide hits such as “Lovesong,” “Pictures of You,” “Lullaby,” “Fascination Street” and more.

Last week, during Sydney’s Vivid LIVE festival, the iconic British rock band played three sold-out shows at the Sydney Opera House to commemorate the album’s anniversary. Along with their classics from Disintegration, they also played its last two songs, “Homesick” and “Untitled,” for the first time in 17 years.

1989 b-side tracks “Esten,” “Out of Mind,” “Delirious Night,” “Babble,” “No Heart” and “Fear Of Ghosts,” all made their live debuts, in addition to The Cure performing Disintegration in its entirety. Watch the performances in fan-shot videos below.

At the Saturday show, Smith and his bandmates closed their set by covering the 1973 song “Pirate Ships,” by rock singer-songwriter Wendy Waldman, as seen in this fan’s video.

The Cure have had an eventful 2019 so far and will continue to play from Disintegration in Sydney on Tuesday and Thursday of this week. The May 30 show will be live-streamed to YouTube and Facebook from the venue.

Just a few months back, the rockers who mastered the ‘80s post-punk, alternative and new-wave sounds were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame by Nine Inch Nails frontman Trent Reznor. They performed a highlight from Disintegration at the ceremony, as well.

The Cure still have much in store for fans this year, as they will continue to play festivals around the globe and release a new album, their first since 2008’s 4:13 Dream.

Smith announced in a December 2018 interview that a new Cure album was in the works, and would hopefully be mixed and later released before Christmas of this year. He said he was inspired to record a new LP after selecting and watching artists for the 2018 Meltdown festival in London, which featured artists like My Bloody Valentine and The Psychedelic Furs.

Smith is also curating a one-day music festival, Pasadena Daydream in Los Angeles. He and his bandmates personally recruited artists for the lineup. Pixies, Deftones, Mogwai and others will perform along with The Cure on Aug. 31.
