The Decemberists Are Curating a Two-Day Festival in Montana
Photo by Autumn De WildeThe Decemberists don’t have any new music on the horizon, but the band’s still been plenty busy. Colin Meloy and company are working on a board game called Ilmat, prepping a massive vinyl box set to pay tribute to The Crane Wife, undertaking a 10-show East Coast tour with Julien Baker and, on top of all that, curating their first festival.
Traveler’s Rest will take place from Aug. 12-13 in Missoula, Mont., and include more than 15 artists such as Belle & Sebastian, Real Estate, Sylvan Esso, Charles Bradley, Julien Baker and The Head and the Heart, with more acts to be announced.
Meloy, who grew up in Montana and attended the University of Montana in Missoula, says that one impetus for the festival was that “many national touring bands skipped Montana altogether.” Meloy then views the band’s curated festival as a chance to bring more music to Big Sky Country.
Passes for Traveler’s Rest go on sale this Friday, March 24, at 12 p.m. EST, starting at $79.50—find those here. One dollar of each ticket sold will go to ACLU Montana and the band is looking to include other local progressive organizations in the festival proceedings.
