The Devil Makes Three Debut Muddy Waters Cover, “Champagne and Reefer”
Photo by David NovinCalifornia trio The Devil Makes Three recently announced that they will release a covers album called Redemption and Ruin. The record, divided into the two themes mentioned in the title, is intended to introduce listeners to the music that influenced the trio, including Tampa Red, Townes Van Zandt, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams and Muddy Waters.
The Devil Makes Three have debuted the second single, Muddy Waters’ “Champagne and Reefer,” from their forthcoming album. The gritty, loose song preaches for the legalization of weed and features the brassy harmonica and the twang of a guitar. The trio certainly do the father of modern Chicago blues proud.
The twelve-track Redemption and Ruin comes out on Aug. 26.
