The Format Return for Limited Run of Shows

Early-2000s indie-poppers The Format are ending their now 12-year-long hiatus for a limited series of shows set for this spring. The band, featuring Nate Ruess (fun.) and Sam Means, were known for infusing ‘60s and ‘70s pop sounds into indie-folk fare. Just before their hiatus, they recorded their Live At the Mayan Theatre concert DVD, which as of today (Feb. 4) will be available on limited bone or green vinyl. You can order it, along with their other releases, on their Hello Merch store.

Upon The Format’s hiatus, Ruess immediately founded the band fun. with now-legendary pop producer Jack Antonoff (Bleachers) and Andrew Dost (Anathallo). The group went on to have widespread success, with their second album having two hits in the Janelle Monáe collab “We Are Young” and power-pop anthem “Some Nights.” Ruess has had considerable solo success, too—his feature on Pink’s “Just Give Me a Reason” earned the two a number-one hit, and he later appeared on singles alongside Eminem and Brian Wilson.

Tickets for all The Format’s upcoming shows will go live this Friday, Feb. 7, at 12 p.m. local time, with pre-sales beginning on Wednesday. You can check out all five of their live dates below, beneath 2010 footage of fun. performing live in the Paste office.
